It’s been a while since I’ve compiled a list of new links to read, so here are a few new ones. I should note, however, that The Arrglington Jump did an excellent job of capturing the major events of the past week in something I hope becomes a regular feature.
South by Southwest Interactive strikes me as the kind of event that makes for excellent networking, but sometimes requires a couple of weeks to really see the substantial developments that came out of it. Nonetheless, Simon Staffans does an excellent job of summarizing the main Transmedia-related panels in addition to some other highlights from the festival. See also parts two, three, and four.
This “intelligence report,” by communications agency JWT, does an excellent job of recapitulating many of the primary principles, themes and player in the Transmedia sphere. It’s a worthwhile refresher even if you’re fully immersed in what is going on.

Pedagogical Considerations of the Transmedia Mythology – Laura Fleming
Laura Fleming has carved an admirable niche as arguably the expert (alongside perhaps Jeff Gomez and his Never Surrender work) in applying Transmedia concepts to the classroom. This is one of her best posts yet – a simple, succinct checklist to consider when designing “sound projects.” A lot of the principle Transmedia ideas are present – collaboration, emotional connection, platform-tailored experiences – alongside a wonderful appreciation for the need to create a “learning culture.” As I’ve written previously, it would be naive to think of Transmedia as an educational “magic bullet,” but I’m really excited to see where Laura’s burgeoning consultancy career will lead.
The 10 Most Innovative Companies in Media – Fast Company
Starlight Runner sits at number five, “for pioneering the field of “transmedia” by packaging stories across multiple platforms.” While I am blessed to sit in the SLR offices and learn from some of the smartest people in the business, I sincerely believe that these kind of media placements are good for the entire industry in building a public appreciation for the work Transmedia producers do.
Augmented Reality May Be The iPad 2′s Secret Killer App – Fast Company
This article is arguably slightly “off-topic” for this blog, but I think it remains essential reading for everybody in the broad sphere. Augmented reality has great potential both for marketing and storytelling if applied artfully, and the iPad’s penetration could be a useful tool. Major kudos to Gary Hayes, who is called out in the article and has been pioneering in this area for years.
Another excellent post from Chuck, who writes one of the most thoughtful, practically useful blog on writing around. This article, which features some not-safe-for-work language, delves into the issue of “world versus story.” I also recommend you take a look at Lucas Johnson’s response – if you’re interested in writing for Transmedia, Lucas’ blog should be bookmarked.
Tools of Change 2011: Technology and the Future of Storytelling – Calvin Reid, Publisher’s Weekly
This piece is a month old, but I’ve yet to comment on it so here it is in case you missed it. Reid discusses Transmedia’s critical role for the future of the publishing industry (and believe me, this is absolutely the case), focusing on a TOC panel featuring Flint Dille, Jeff Gomez and Jeremy Bornstein.

I am selecting some links to “feed” the participants at the Transmedia Barcamp in Marseille and start to help them to become “transmedia ready”.
I thought that this link of yours would work to introduce your blog ?
Do you want to give us some special links ?
It would AWESOME if you could write a post about us, just before or during, or close.
I will try to update you with info asap. Working on it.

I also prepare the rest of the surprises for the month of May so have some room for us (Transmedia Europe and Transmedia Ready) More very soon.

Karine: obviously I emailed you yesterday, but to address these questions in the “public space”… if Barcamp attendees want to browse through my site before or during the event, that’s great; but by the same token I wouldn’t claim to be either the most definitive or relevant source for them – check out the links to the right of the blog.
If you keep me posted on the event, and what came out of it, I will strongly consider writing a review of it. As I said by email, I’m really impressed by the initiative on show. As for Christy’s masterclass, I’m certain that it will be absolutely superb.
